Having had severe back pain, and sciatica for three years, I was really desperate to find someone who had experience to operate on my back. I was diagnosed as needing decompression surgery on my bulging disc L5 S1. It had deteriorated on the right hand side, and also to the lesser effect on the left hand side too. On meeting Mr Subramanian for our initial consultation, I was immediately put at ease. He looked at my MRI scans, and gave his suggestions as to a way forward. This was to cut away bone, remove a ligament, to relieve the pressure on my nerve. It was hoped this would be enough to solve the problem, but he said I may need my disc shaved too . He agreed to sort out the other side whilst operating. Having a spinal operation was never something I’d ever have considered before, but Mr Subramanian installed confidence, and I felt with his experience I could trust him completely to do a thorough job. A date for my operation became available, and he agreed to work on a Saturday, which is a day not normally used. I was very nervous on the day, but his calm manner again installed confidence. The operation took 2hrs, and went to plan. On recovery, he came to see me, to check how I was. He encouraged me to walk, which I was able to do without pain, and also to climb a couple of stairs. Quite amazing I thought. I went home the following day, with a list of do’s and don’ts . After a week, I tried to follow his advice, but had a few queries. I phoned his secretary, who told me he’d be in touch. That evening he phoned me to answer my queries. I was very grateful! I would certainly recommend Mr Subramanian as a very caring, experienced surgeon.

From the very start of my journey towards having my operation Mr Subramanian kept me informed, answered my questions and addressed my fears. I was amazed at the outcome from my surgery. It’s nothing short of amazing. My quality of life has improved immensely and I can now do things that I haven’t been able to do. I am fitter, stronger and now help my brother splitting logs. I’m looking forward to working with my brother this summer at Hunts frozen foods. Something that I did t dream of doing before because I couldn’t be active without pain Neil now. I can’t thank him enough. He is an amazing specialist and is great at wha he does. Improving life for people like me.

Mr Ashok Sridhara Subramanian was absolutely amazing, nobody likes attending a hospital but he made me feel at ease. He explained everything in terms I understood to help me make the decisions about my care. He ended up doing my emergency operation the following day. He came to see me a couple of times after surgery to check my progress. I am now one week after surgery and had some concerns so he called me directly to answer my questions. He genuinely cares about his patients, I've never had surgery before so was very nervous and had no idea what to expect after. I hope I don't need further surgery down the line, but if i did and had a choice I would ask for Mr Subramanian.
